“not out of~the works in with~righteousness, of~which [works], we, we had done,
but according-to the mercy of~Same;

to~us He had saved through
a~renascence of~bathing,
and a~renewal of~sanctified spirit;” (~Robin)

Take a look at this verse from Titus; I agree, totally, with the opening statement …not our works of righteousness, but rather His mercy; however, the second half of this verse sounds a bit off …

That is, we are saved through “a bathing” …
true, our trust in His death, our immersion into His death,
might be described as this so-called “bathing,” …
but it’s a rather lame and confusing Figure of speech.

That is, “bathing” conveys more the thought of ritualized cleansing,
something we do, rather than what Christ did …

And then, there’s the second have of this statement … “a renewal of sanctified spirit” …
Again, something sounds just a little off about this, in that it seems to be indicating,
that our existing sanctified spirit needs some sort of renewal …
as if, something needs to be done again?
Christ died once, and for all … there’s no “do-over” involved in any of this!

Maybe I’m being too literal, maybe I’m reading this totally wrong …
but something down deep, tells me this is odd, and not spiritually correct,
for the Body of Christ?
